
The Morii Coast quarry - Urviş was opened by the Regional Department of Roads Crisana in 1956, but in 1958 the operation was not as organized, extracting only fragments of rocks and debris from the massive.
In 1958 the method of operation by clipping-jail was introduced and in 1960 the firs step of operation was opened. Until 1977 the quarry belonged to the Local Industry Factory Beiuş under the supervision of The Local Industry Group Oradea - Bihor. In September 1977, through the application of Decree 228 the Urviş quarry passes under the control of SPISI Someseni of I.C.C.F. Cluj and in February 1978 passes through the reorganization to IPICCF Cluj, then returns to Operating Quarries Someseni Railways, that became in 1991 SC GRANDEMAR S.A. Cluj Napoca.
Since 1992, Urviş quarry is managed as a 100% privately owned company by SC CARIERA URVIŞ COMPROD LTD
The Urviş Quarry is located within the county of Bihor, Şoimi - UrviŞ village on the right bank of the river Black Criş.
From the morphological point of view, the perimeter of the quarry belongs to the northern massif Codru - Moma and has a hilly aspect, with altitudes ranging between 140 and 300 m and slow slopes.
The main course of water in the area is the Black Criş, that created a gorge between Uileac and Ş, and most tributaries are located on the left bank. The access to the quarry is made via railway track Oradea - Vascau or by road Beiuş - Pocola - Tinca - Salonta.
The quartz sandstone quarry from Urviş, jud Bihor is organized as a mining production unit, with an organized activity since 1958, having the means of production and necessary utilities.
